The first paragraph – that’s one area of the marketing email that most people struggle with.
The pressure is high, because you and I know how the email starts will determine if your prospects will continue reading or just trashed it. Plus, given their short attention span, it has to be punchy, impactful and engaging.
Although there are a couple of ways to start off your email directly, one of the easiest and most effective, is the Yes Tags.
Simply put, Yes Tags are questions which will get you a “yes” answer.
A few examples are:
Do you want to know how to improve morale at the workplace?
Have you ever wanted to increase your intelligence and wow your bosses?
Want to clean your entire home in just 5 minutes, no matter how dirty it is?
Usually you can start with just one question, or increase the effectiveness further by asking three consecutive questions that are all linked to your products or services. That’s called the Triple Yes Tag.
An easy template I usually recommend to my clients and workshop participants are:
Do you want to [benefit of your product or service]?
It’s as simple as that! You can change the start of the question, but as long as you highlight a benefit (or two) in the question, it’s a great way to start the email conversation.
The Yes Tags method is just one of the five ways to effectively start an email, which I cover in our 2-day Email Marketing INTENSIVE workshop. And just like this quick email, I usually provide proven templates where participants just need to fill in the blanks, or a quick check list to make sure your contents have all the necessary ingredients.
You will also learn:
- How to craft email subject lines that will increase your open rates
- How to subtly add in Call-To-Actions that get clicked all the time
- How to generate months worth of content ideas in just 5 minutes
- How to structure the emails for be psychologically and emotionally effective
- And more!
